Welcome to Heritage Santa, a relaxed Christmas photography experience at historic Drummond Manor in Waterdown, Ontario. Come for your family portraits. Stay for the warm apple cider, the local art, and a good visit in a house that's been welcoming people for generations.
A beautiful old house deserved a new Christmas tradition.
Heritage Santa started in 2025 with photographer Danielle, a historic manor, and an idea for doing something a little different during the quieter winter season.
The inspiration came from this part of Waterdown itself: the orchards, the old farmhouses, the artists, the independent businesses, and the people who make this area what it is.
Drummond Manor was an obvious place to begin. Built in 1896, the Queen Anne-style house has character everywhere you look, from its architecture to the rooms and surroundings that make it such an inviting place for photographs.
Rather than create a big, busy Christmas attraction, we wanted something personal. Somewhere families could settle in, meet Santa, and spend a little time together.
Thanks to our hosts at Drummond Manor Events, who provide the venue for Heritage Santa, that idea became our first season. The Manor is also home to artist studios and other creative activity.
A little less bustle. A lot more room to be yourselves.
Every family is different. We try to make Heritage Santa a place where that isn't something you need to explain or apologize for.
Gentler by design
Appointments instead of long lines. Steady photographic lighting rather than repeated flashes. A relaxed atmosphere with time to settle in. We aim to keep stimulation manageable without promising a completely sensory-free environment.
Accessibility matters
The Manor offers ramp access and an accessible washroom, with space for wheelchairs and strollers. Tell us about any mobility or sensory needs before your appointment so we can plan together.
Kindness comes first
Our Santas are thoughtful, creative people, many of them musicians and performers, who genuinely enjoy children. Families stay together, and children remain with their parents or guardians throughout.
Danielle has completed a vulnerable sector check many times for previous employers. When she contacted local police about getting vulnerable sector checks for everyone, they said because parents or guardians are always with the child in this context, a vulnerable check is not needed. Our approach also includes choosing Santas for their patience, warmth, and ability to respond comfortably to children with different personalities and needs.
Close to the city. A world away from the rush.
Heritage Santa is an easy outing from Hamilton, Burlington, Ancaster, Dundas, and the surrounding communities. Once you're here, there's no need to hurry through a crowded shopping centre. Enjoy your photographs, have some warm apple cider, and spend a little time in the Manor.

The Drummond family has been farming this land for generations, growing apples, pears, and other seasonal produce. That history is part of what makes the Manor and its surrounding orchards special.
Just next door is the Drummond Farms Apple Shack. Heritage Santa is an independent photography business, not affiliated with or operated by the Apple Shack. We're simply neighbours who are happy to support one another.
And yes, Santa buys apples from Drummond Farms for his reindeer. Apparently, they have standards.
Depending on the weather, season, and property availability, we can also discuss outdoor family portraits in the orchard by special arrangement.
Christmas shopping with a local accent.
Our gift shop makes room for artwork, handmade gifts, and thoughtful creations from local artists and craftspeople.
The Manor is already home to creative people, so it feels natural to include a little of that talent in the Heritage Santa experience.
You might come for a Christmas portrait and discover something made by a neighbour. We think that's a pretty good combination.
Shopping locally helps keep small creative businesses part of the community. And it's rather nice knowing who made the thing you're giving.
It takes more than one person to make Christmas happen.
One thing became obvious during our first season: Heritage Santa wouldn't have happened without people sharing their time, ideas, talents, connections, and encouragement.
That experience helped inspire Human Doings , Danielle's portrait project celebrating the people who contribute to the things we build and enjoy.
Heritage Santa continues in that spirit. It's a small, independent photography experience made possible by wonderful Santas, local makers, generous neighbours, and a remarkable old house.
